Spend some time with the teachers at Chandler Woods and it won’t take long to figure out that they love where they work. They are proud to be a part of a community that goes above and beyond. Krina Young, a new addition to the Chandler Woods faculty remarks, “All of the teachers equally and enthusiastically collaborate to implement new ideas. They are willing to go the extra mile to help children. I’ve never been part of a staff where the people are all on the same team and get along so well professionally and socially. They truly are a family that I’m glad to be a part of.”

Krina comes to Chandler Woods with years of teaching experience and insight on some differences from her previous employment at a parochial school. She comments on how the accountability for teachers is higher at Chandler Woods, the training extensive and impressive, and the expectations of the curriculum clearly aligned and scheduled. Krina was also impressed with how the academy is committed to not only testing students, but also studying the data from these tests, collaborating about it, and then using it to help students improve in weak areas. MAP testing is done electronically three times per year and therefore able to give immediate results to the school. Teachers can use the information to set up very specific goals for classes and individual students.

One extreme difference Krina noted was the support received from parents and the emphasis the academy puts on the parent partnership. “Parent communication is the KEY to success, and it is obvious at Chandler Woods. Consistent and frequent communication with parents provides immediate results in the child’s behavior and performance.” Teachers are often available to give a quick update in the mornings as they greet the students outside, or after school when they are picked up. The parent can also expect weekly newsletters from the child’s classroom teacher.
